The God Shot. The inception of Red Cherry Coffee Roasters is traced back to 2006. John and Audrey Goodridge (then to-be co-founders) chanced upon a flat white so delicious they were entranced. Ask any coffee aficionado; they can usually tell you every detail surrounding their first experience of great coffee. Trouble is, when you’ve had coffee that good going back to anything less is impossible.
Over the next three years John and Audrey spent every free waking moment researching the art and science of attaining and maintaining at least that level of coffee quality. The quest took them into learning the preparation of rich, sweet espresso, silky microfoamed milk, hunting down the worlds best tasting coffees, and the complexity, biochemistry and deep artisan skill of roasting.
All of which attracted some attention. A local cafe owner asked us if they’d like to go pro to supply his cafe. The deal was done, roaster purchased, imported and set up and Red Cherry Coffee Roasters was in business.
Since then they’ve worked tirelessly to source and roast green coffees which will delight, from the rich, syrupy chocolatyness of our K2 espresso blend to the complexity and distinct character of our single origins.
Audrey our artisan roaster and cupper journeyed to El Salvador, invited by Cup of Excellence to help judge the best of the 2009-2010 harvest. A great honour, and life changing in our perception of the possibilities of what coffee could be, feeding our passion for the continual pursuit of delicious, God Shot level coffee.
Meanwhile John, erstwhile Barista trainer and encourager was honoured to be invited to judge in the South African National Barista championships, and in the process learned more about exactly what the internationally agreed definition of a great coffee is.
